Days pass, and it may seem that the events surrounding the war in Ukraine recede into the background. However, the war continues, and the topic of peace for us is both desirable and irritating simultaneously. That is why young people from different European countries met to look for ways to peace.
On August 9-14, 2022, an international meeting called "Carta di Leuca" on the topic: "The Right Ways of Peace" is taking place. This event in Italy brought together 50 volunteers from Ukraine, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, Albania, Romania, Malta, and other countries in conversations and activities dedicated to the issue of peace. Five volunteers represent our Mission in the international program: from "Caritas-Spes Lutsk" parish of St. Peter and Paul", and the Lviv youth center (parish of the village of Ryasne), who participate in this active and rich program, talk about Ukraine to the whole world, share their experience and learn from the experience of young people from other countries.
The war raging in Europe and other parts of the world demands peacemakers speak louder. The warning expressed in 1977 by St. Paul VI is still valid today: "Peace is not a dream, it is not a utopia, it is not an illusion", although its construction involves a "very difficult and very long" task. Earlier, Saint John XXIII reminded of the four pillars that support the building of peace: truth, justice, love and freedom. This is not a simple list of principles but a reference to universal values capable of inspiring decisions and actions valid for all people.
The "Carta di Leuca 2022" meeting proposes four verbs: think, plan, speak, and offer peace. The friendly atmosphere that unites different cultures, countries, and nationalities encourages reflection on peace`s importance in its various manifestations. A commitment to peace must be inspired by an idea of peace that is deep and compelling enough to strengthen human aspirations and prompt further action.
